Affirmations used to feel more like
penitance, those days in the confessional
All blue and dark
Where it all came out shimmering
It used to scare me shitless
All blue and dark and light and shining
[glistening]

Sometimes where I see my reflection I
wonder if it’s how you see me
You see, I could be gentler in the way I see.
More,
I could let my voice soar:
“Beautiful eyes, though.”

Now, beautiful soft eyes see
the shadow of the cage breathing life over
me
The dappled darkness as alive as ever
Alighting on my face and my fingertips
All blue and dark and light and shining

Now, you see, I need you with me all the time
like I need a hole in the heart
It used to scare me shitless
And yet I want you here
And yet I like you here
All blue and warm:

I live a simple life.
